SRO Motorsports Group wishes to extend its sincere condolences to the family and friends of David Price, who passed away earlier this week aged 75.
In a long and varied career, Price’s major successes included a title win in the BPR Global GT Series. His David Price Racing squad entered the 1995 season with a McLaren F1 GTR running under the West Competition banner, while a second car was added later in the year as Mach One Racing.
This would prove to be a stellar campaign. The West Competition McLaren won at Monza and Donington Park, while the Mach One Racing entry swept the final three events at Silverstone, Nogaro and Zhuhai. This gave David Price Racing the teams' title, while the West combination of Thomas Bscher and John Nielsen (pictured above) were crowned drivers' champions.
The British outfit continued in BPR for 1996 and was also on the grid for the very first season of the FIA GT Championship in '97. Latterly, Price ran McLaren GT3 machinery in the Fanatec GT Endurance Cup, and as recently as 2019 he was active in the GT4 European Series paddock as team principal of the race-winning Bullitt Racing squad.
Elsewhere he garnered particular respect in junior single-seater racing, with the likes of Nigel Mansell, Martin Brundle, Johnny Dumfries and Tiff Needell all driving for him early in their careers. Known as a straight talker and a paddock character, he will be missed by his many friends in the sport.
