K-PAX Racing will return to the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa to chase overall victory this this year, with an impressive trio of drivers set to share the wheel of its Lamborghini.
Led by Jim Haughey, the American squad made its maiden appearance at the event in 2020 as part of a full-season Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS assault with Bentley and was rewarded with a top-10 finish at the marquee race, while both of its entries reached the chequered flag.
Last year the team returned to Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS competition and switched brands to Lamborghini. K-PAX went on to dominate the 2021 season, comfortably clinching the teams' title while Andrea Caldarelli and Jordan Pepper picked up the drivers' crown.
It will defend the American championship this year with two cars while also entering a single Lamborghini at the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa, which represents the marquee event for both Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS and the Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli.
Caldarelli and Pepper will spearhead the full-season effort and tackle the Belgian endurance classic. Both have considerable experience in the Ardennes: Caldarelli has been a fixture in factory-backed Lamborghinis during recent years, while Pepper was part of the K-PAX Bentley crew that finished 10th in 2020.
They will be joined at Spa by another Lamborghini expert in Marco Mapelli. The Italian rejoins fellow countryman Caldarelli, with whom he shared front-running cars at Spa in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Notably, Mapelli also holds the GT3 race lap record for the event after posting a 2m18.146s in 2020.
“K-PAX Racing wants to compete and race against the best in the world and there isn’t any other GT3 race that compares to the Spa 24,” commented team manager Darren Law. “We have a great opportunity this year in our partnership with Lamborghini and to have the chance with our K-PAX Racing drivers Andrea and Jordan and adding in Marco Mapelli will give us an extremely strong line up and we look forward to getting back to this event.”
This year's TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa is scheduled for 28-31 July, preceded by the official test days on 21-22 June.
