A long-time powerhouse of junior single-seater racing, French squad Tech1 is now making serious waves on the GT scene.
The team was founded in 2000 by siblings Simon and Sarah Abadie. Initially its focus was on running Simon in Formula Renault 2.0, but Tech1 soon developed into a much bigger project for the family. As such, Simon stepped away from driving to run the team with his sister.
Over the years that followed Tech1 became the reference in a number of Formula Renault categories, winning the top-tier Formula Renault 3.5 teams' title in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012. During this period the Toulouse-based outfit ran some of the brightest young talents in modern motorsport. Daniel Ricciardo, Pierre Gasly and Jules Bianchi are just some of the big names to contest full seasons for the squad, while the likes of Jean-Eric Vergne, George Russel and Carlos Sainz Jr. also passed through its doors.
In 2016 Tech1 switched to prototype racing, forming an alliance with 1996 Monaco Grand Prix winner Olivier Panis. This facilitated a move into the GT ranks in 2019, when the team ran a Lexus RC F GT3 in the Endurance Cup, as well as selected Sprint events.
In 2020 Tech1 will contest the full GT World Challenge Europe season in the Silver Cup class. Continuing its reputation for nurtuting new talent, the project sees a trio of young French drivers entrusted with the RC F GT3.
