SMP Racing has become a major player in the motorsport world during recent years, known primarily for supporting Russian drivers and backing teams competing across the globe.
It has been active in GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS since 2013, when SMP linked up with AF Corse to run a pair of Ferrari 458s in the Endurance Cup. The crew's maiden win came in only its fifth outing, with Kirill Ladygin, Viktor Shaytar and Anton Ladygin taking Pro-Am honours at the Nurburgring.
The team contested the Total 24 Hours of Spa in 2014 and made a full-time return to the series in 2017, again working with AF Corse to field a full-pro entry for Shaytar and Ferrari factory drivers Davide Rigon and Miguel Molina.
In 2018 former IndyCar racer Mikhail Aleshin joined alongside Rigon and Molina. The team soon emerged as a frequent podium contender, capturing a first overall victory at Silverstone in 2019. Indeed, the trio came within a whisker of taking the Endurance Cup crown, missing out by a single point at the season-ending race.
In 2020 SMP Racing has brought former grand prix racer Sergey Sirotkin into the programme. Ferrari experts Rigon and Molina are retained for a fourth year in succession, while the team continues to work with the accomplished AF Corse outfit.
