Jenson Team Rocket RJN will return to GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS in 2020, having revealed plans to field a McLaren 720S GT3 in this season's Endurance Cup.
The British outfit will contest the five-round championship with a to-be-confirmed driver line-up, launching a programme that will include an assault on the Total 24 Hours of Spa.
The team was formed last year as a partnership between accomplished GT squad RJN and 2009 Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button, running a Honda NSX GT3 in the Silver Cup class. Prior to this Bob Neville's RJN outfit enjoyed a long relationship with Nissan and captured the overall Endurance Cup drivers' title in 2015.
Jenson Team Rocket RJN will now link up with the iconic McLaren brand, whose F1 squad Button won eight grands prix for during a seven-year spell. As was the case last term, the team will run in the iconic Brawn GP livery that featured on Button's 2009 title-winning car.
"It's exciting to confirm that Jenson Team Rocket RJN will be campaigning the 720S GT3 and racing with McLaren this season," said Button. "The GT World Challenge championship grid gets stronger and stronger every year and the racing is amongst the best in the world. We go into the season full of confidence with a team boasting huge experience and a car which has already proven itself a race winner."
McLaren Automotive director of motorsport Ian Morgan added: "It is great to have Jenson Team Rocket RJN join the customer racing family for 2020. The GT World Challenge Europe championship offers probably the biggest challenge in GT3 racing and the 720S GT3 has kicked off the year with a strong result on its Bathurst 12 Hour debut last weekend. We now have a strong foundation to build on and, and this latest programme is extremely exciting for the new season ahead."
Jenson Team Rocket RJN is the second squad to confirm a programme with the McLaren 720S, following in the footsteps of title-winning British GT outfit Optimum Motorsport. The full 2020 grid will be revealed during the series' official test days at Circuit Paul Ricard on 12/13 March.
