Tomorrow the inaugural Intercontinental GT Challenge champions will receive their unique trophies during the traditional parade of the Total 24 Hours of Spa. Both Laurens Vanthoor, the 2016 drivers champion, as well as a representative of Audi, 2016 manufacturers champion, will be handed one of the most distinctive trophies in the motorsports world.
The parade is one of the highlights of the Total 24 Hours of Spa, second round of the 2017 Intercontinental GT Challenge. It is an excellent opportunity to hand over the 2016 champion’s trophies, trophies that are a perfect symbol for the global character of the Intercontinental GT Challenge.
Champion Laurens Vanthoor finished on the podium in each of the three races in 2016, winning the season finale, the Motul Sepang 12 Hours. That win allowed him to beat Audi-colleague René Rast and McLaren-driver Shane Van Gisbergen in the final standings. Thanks to their top-2 finish in Sepang, Audi emphatically won the first manufacturer’s title with a 35-point margin.
