In exactly one week's time the cars for the 2016 Blancpain GT Series will participate in the first event of the season, the official test days at Circuit Paul Ricard. Among those cars there is plenty of new machinery, such as the Porsche 911 GT3R.
It was a long wait for a new GT3 car to come out of the Zuffenhausen workshops, but at the end of 2015 there it finally was: the new Porsche 911 GT3R. Just like the previous model, the GT3R is again powered by a 4.0-liter flat-six engine shared with a production model. In this case it's the epic 911 GT3 RS, meaning the GT3R gets plenty of muscle.
No wonder that some teams chose the Porsche 911 GT3R to participate in the world's biggest GT championship, the Blancpain GT Series. One notable addition to the list is German squad a-workx. The squad around Niko Wieth will start in the Pro-Am category of the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup, with two experienced Porsche drivers at the wheel: Sebastian Asch will pair up with Didi Gonzales.
Niko Wieth (Team Principal) : “We are happy to be back in a series organized by Stefan Ratel after a long time of absence and looking forward to an exciting year with the new Porsche 991 GT3 R."
