Even though Laurens Vanthoor did not score a single point during the last two rounds of the Blancpain Endurance Series the Belgian – together with #1 Audi team-mates Robin Frijns and Jean-Karl Vernay – still has a shot at the title. The trio needs to gain 20 points on fellow Audi-drivers Ortelli and Stippler, which requires a win. And even then they must hope that the Nissan and ROWE drivers do not finish on the podium. But the Belgian has enough experience to know that anything is possible in motorsports, especially at the Nürburgring.
“We have lost a lot of points by what happened in Spa”, Vanthoor says. “We still have a theoretical chance for the title, but it will be very difficult. Nürburgring is special track to me: I’ve won the German F3-title here, last year I conquered the Blancpain Endurance Series title here, and this year I won the Nürburgring 24 hours. It is going to be very hard, but I will not give up my Blancpain Endurance Series title without a fight.”
