BMW Sports Trophy Team Brazil is very much looking forward to next weekend’s Blancpain Sprint Series round at the Autodromo Internacional Algarve. There is the obvious language link between Portugal and Brazil of course, but the team has also its European base at the Portimao track. A good result would do their title hopes no harm.
"The team spends much of the year in the workshop in Europe, at our Portuguese base”, Sergio Jimenez explains. “The mechanicals have made friends there and this race is our home race. Last year we were already competitive at this racetrack and we lost a podium finish due to an electrical problem. Now, I want that podium.”
“We are excited for this round in Portugal, yes”, Atila Abreu smiles. “Our pre-season test was at this circuit, so I already know this track. It’s interesting, to say the least. We expect to get a good result. To race ‘at home’ makes this weekend a bit easier, it gives an added incentive to achieve the goals and fight for the lead. When I entered the Blancpain Sprint Series I did not expect to fight for the title, especially since I could not race at the first round. But after four podiums and other good results, I have changed my expectations for the championship. It’s all the result of having a good team and good drivers. We will continue to do a good job, to get some more good results. Grabbing the title could be the realization of a dream for us. But we have to focus on Portugal first, and get a good result. A 100% Brazilian victory is coming soon, I’m sure. We cannot to be eager to win, but one day this victory will happen.”
