A couple of inspired laps by Nick Catsburg put the #88 Reiter Engineering Lamborghini on pole for this afternoon's Qualifying Race on the Moscow Raceway. The Dutchman was the only driver who managed to break the 1'37 barrier. Markus Winkelhock put the #6 Phoenix Racing Audi on the front row for the first time since Nogaro 2014. This afternoon, Winkelhock will drive both races alone however, since team-mate Niki Mayr-Melnhof had to leave the circuit immediately due to a private family emergency. For the mandatory pit stop no minimum time is set, but no points will be awarded to either the team or the driver for either race.
The third row of the grid will be shared by the #333 Rinaldi Racing Ferrari of Norbert Siedler and the #55 Attempto Racing McLaren of Kevin Estre, despite having a small off in the final minutes of the qualifying session.
Series leaders Laurens Vanthoor and Robin Frijns, who took pole at the two previous meetings of the Blancpain Sprint Series, will start the Qualifying Race from the third row, one row in front of the Silver Cup Bentley of Jules Szymkowiak. The #71 GT Russian Team SLS of Marko Asmer took pole in Pro-Am.
The Qualifying Race will start at 1 pm, with the Main Race getting underway at 4 pm.
