21-year old Belgo-Briton Sean Walkinshaw is switching from single-seaters to GT racing next year. Walkinshaw, the son of legendary TWR team owner Tom, is aiming to compete in the 2015 Blancpain Sprint Series and the Total 24 Hours of Spa. As a driver, father Tom was a double winner of the Belgian blue-ribbon event, claiming victory in 1981 (Mazda RX-7) and 1984 (Jaguar XJS). Sean Walkinshaw will prepare the start of his GT career in the Gulf 12 Hours later this month, driving a Ferrari 458 Italia GT3.
Sean Walkinshaw: “I could do a couple more seasons of single-seaters, but it’s likely that I will not make it into F1. That is why I make the switch now. I have always had the goal to do sportscar and GT racing. I would love to combine the Blancpain Sprint Series with the Total 24 Hours of Spa, but I am open to compete in the Blancpain Endurance Series as well.”
