FP2: Day puts Walkenhorst Aston Martin on top in rain-shortened session

Jamie Day led a rain-shorted FP2 at Magny-Cours, which was red-flagged with more than half an hour remaining due to worsening conditions at the French track.

The #34 Walkenhorst Motorsport Aston Martin driver posted a 1m54.168s, which was some 17 seconds adrift of the fastest times set in FP1. Crucially, however, it was better than anyone else could manage in the wet.

Despite the significant difference in track conditions and lap times, second and third were the same as in FP1. Marvin Dienst again occupied P2 in the #87 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG, beating the sister car of Maro Engel by almost half a second.

The #10 Boutsen VDS Porsche also showed well in wet and dry conditions, improving one place from the earlier session to finish fourth with Robin Knutsson at the wheel. The meant that all three class leaders were among the overall top four, with Day, Dienst and Kuntsson fastest in Silver, Bronze and Gold respectively.

Only 26 of the 44 runners set a time during FP2. Among those not to do so were the FP1 pace-setter, Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing, the #46 Team WRT BMW, both AF Corse Ferraris, and both Garage 59 McLarens.

In contrast to a wet and windy Friday, warm and sunny conditions are forecast for Saturday's track activity at Magny-Cours. Qualifying 1 gets underway at 14:55 while Race 1 begins at 21:05. Both will be streamed live on the GT World YouTube channel
