The #33 ROAL Motorsport BMW of Alex Zanardi will carry a very special livery for the Portuguese round of the Blancpain Sprint Series. Zanardi’s BMW Z4 GT3 is now partially gold, in honour of Zanardi’s performances at the recent UCI Para-Cycling World Championships at Greenville, South Carolina.
The BMW Works driver had a lot of success in the MH5 category (men’s hand-cycle). Not only did he win the silver medal in the road race, but he also successfully defended his world championship-title in the time-trial and also won a second gold medal in the team-relay with the Italian national team.
“I am speechless”, Zanardi stated after he had a first look at the surprise the team had made for him. “And I have to say: that is pretty rare for me! I am so very touched by this. The boys of the team and the people of BMW in Munich made a wonderful car. It has been a few hectic weeks, I have to say. When I was still racing at the Slovakiaring, my team-mates of the relay team were already training hard in Greenville. I went to join them as quickly as I could and now I am back here in Portimao. I can’t wait to drive this beautiful car. But I will be very careful, because I don’t want to scratch my baby!”
