The second edition of the FIA Motorsport Games will run this weekend at Circuit Paul Ricard (26-30 October) where two GT disciplines are set to form part of a significantly expanded on-track programme. In each case, a host of familiar names from the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS paddock will be chasing the gold medal in the colours of their home nation.
A new addition for 2022, the GT Sprint category caters for single-driver entries and has attracted some of the biggest names in the sport, including Fanatec GT champions Mirko Bortolotti (Italy), Dries Vanthoor (Belgium), Dani Juncadella (Spain) and Luca Stolz (Germany). The field also features regular front-runners such as Matt Campbell (Australia), Tristan Vautier (France) and Ayhancan Guven (Turkey) among others.
The GT Cup category was part of the inaugural FIA Motorsport Games in 2019 and, once again, challenges two-driver crews to chase glory for their homeland. Fanatec GT fans will recognise several names: Team Germany duo Valentin Pierburg and Fabian Schiller are both series regulars, as are Simon Gachet (France), Chris Froggatt and Ian Loggie (United Kingdom).
What's more, the likes of Stephen and Brenton Grove (Australia) and Karol Basz (Poland) were on the grid for this season's TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa. There are familiar names among the teams, too, with Akkodis ASP, AF Corse, Optimum Motorsport, SPS Automotive Performance and Sky Temesta Racing all having entered at least one event in 2022.
GT Cup activity will begin on Friday with free practice and qualifying, culminating in the opening one-hour qualifying race at 18:00. A second qualifying race will follow on Saturday morning, establishing the grid for the medal-deciding one-hour contest at 15:15.
The GT Sprint action will take place on Sunday, with two 40-minute practice sessions followed by qualifying at 12:10. The 60-minute race – which represents the final track action of the 2022 edition – will get underway at 15:50. All of the competitive action will be free-to-view on the FIA Motorsport Games YouTube account, with further updates across the event's social media channels.
