Audi factory drivers Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer will share the wheel of an Audi R8 LMS ultra for the first time, contesting the Total 24 Hours of Spa (July 26/27) for Belgian Audi Club Team WRT. The trio will be driving together for the first time in an R8 LMS ultra, but have been competing in sports car races for Audi since 2010, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2011 and 2012.
Belgian Audi Club Team WRT – the 2011 winner of the endurance race in the Ardennes and double team champions in the Blancpain Endurance Series – will be fielding the #2 R8 LMS GT3 for the Audi factory drivers. Marcel Fässler was the overall winner in the classic Belgian event in 2007 with Phoenix Racing and has contested the last five editions of the race with an R8 LMS. André Lotterer was on the grid with Audi in the past two years and took third place last year. Benoît Tréluyer will be making his debut in the world’s leading GT3 race.
The #1 car of the team will be driven by Blancpain GT Series’ regulars Laurens Vanthoor and René Rast, who will be joined by former F1-driver and 2012 GT1 World Champion Markus Winkelhock. The drivers of the other two cars entered by the Belgian Audi Club Team WRT will be announced in due time.
Vincent Vosse (team manager): “The Total 24 Hours of Spa are the most important race of the year for us, so I am understandably very happy that three important drivers from the Audi LMP-programme will join us in Spa. Marcel has plenty of experience in Francorchamps and André already drove for us in the past. Benoit and Markus are new to the team, but I am sure that we will be very well prepared by the start of the Belgian race weekend.”
