Mercedes-AMG has confirmed that it will provide support to AKKA ASP and newly-established squad HRT at the upcoming Total 24 Hours of Spa (22-25 October).
The German marque, which celebrates the 10th anniversary of its customer racing programme this year, is targeting a first overall victory at the 24 Hours since 2013. In AKKA ASP, it will work with one of GT3 racing's most experienced and successful outfits. Part of the Mercedes-AMG fold since 2015, Jerome Policand's squad will field Timur Boguslavskiy, Felipe Fraga and Raffaele Marciello in the twice-around-the-clock contest.
HRT, which joins GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS this season, has been established by experienced racer and successful real estate developer Hubert Haupt. The team will field Vincent Abril, Maro Engel and Luca Stolz in the full Endurance Cup, and has also assembled an experienced staff for its debut season.
In a statement, Mercedes-AMG revealed that "at least two" cars would receive its assistance at Spa, leaving the door open for further factory-supported efforts at the Belgian endurance classic. The Total 24 Hours of Spa will stage a unique autumn edition this year, which also represents the race's 20th running since GT rules were adopted in 2001. Tickets are on sale now for the 22-25 October event.
