Fanatec, a global leader in high-end sim racing hardware for consoles and PCs, has joined the SRO E-Sport GT Series as an official partner for the 2020 season.
Organised in collaboration with Kunos Simulazioni and Ak Informatica, the new championship uses Assetto Corsa Competizione and sees three classes competing in separate races. Five regular-season events for Pro, Silver and Am Series competitors will set the stage for a grand finale, which will feature the star performers from each class.
As a highly accurate simulation that combines real-world drivers, top sim racers and avid gamers, the new championship is a natural fit for Fanatec. Focussing on advanced technology, unique features and exceptional quality, the German brand offers a wide variety of products, such as steering wheels, wheel bases, racing wheels, pedals, cockpits and connecting accessories.
Fanatec has more than 21 years' industry experience and has worked in partnership with well-known brands such as BMW, Porsche, McLaren, and Formula 1. Its products are available in Europe, North America, Australia and Japan via fanatec.com.
Fanatec will be a significant presence throughout the SRO E-Sport GT Series, which began on 26 April with races for the Pro and Silver classes at Silverstone. As well as branding around the event broadcast, Fanatec will create an award for the best overtake of the weekend, run hot-lap tutorials, and air highlights following each round.
The SRO E-Sport GT Series features a number of leading Pro class drivers from GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS, who will race virtual versions of their real-world GT3 cars in the championship. The grid has been further bolstered by the addition of 2009 Formula 1 champion Jenson Button, who will drive with his own team's livery.
The next event takes place on Sunday (10 May) when the Pro and Silver Series tackle the legendary Spa-Francorchamps. Further races will be staged at the Nürburgring (17 May), Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (31 May) and a track to be decided by public vote (14 June). The location of the grand finale will also be selected by fans.
All races will enjoy extensive coverage on television and across a variety of online platforms, including the GT World Challenge website, the GT World YouTube account, and the SRO Motorsports Twitch and Facebook pages. With a professional broadcast team guiding fans through the action, the SRO E-Sport GT Series adds real-world experience to the excitement of sim racing.
