The full contingent of Blancpain GT Series drivers and cars gathered on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya pit straight this evening for a group photo in support of Legado Maria de Villota, a movement that continues the legacy of the late Spanish driver.
Led by long-serving Bentley racer Andy Soucek – a friend and former competitor of De Villota – the photo was symbolic of the fundraising efforts that have taken place this weekend. Yesterday, a charity dinner was organised on the pit straight to raise money for Fundación Ana Carolina Diez Mahou, which supports children suffering from neuromuscular and mitochondrial diseases.
As well as the full field of Blancpain GT Series drivers, Maria's family were also present this evening. They have sought to continue her legacy since her passing in 2013, which came a little over a year after she suffered a serious accident while testing a Formula 1 car.
Legado Maria de Villota continues the work she did between the accident and her passing by working with charitable organisations such as Fundación Ana Carolina Diez Mahou. More information on the movement can be found here.
