Lamborghini will defend its Blancpain GT Series titles with the GRT Grasser Racing Team this season, calling upon the same drivers who led them to glory last year.
Mirko Bortolotti, Andrea Caldarelli and Christian Engelhart clinched the Endurance Cup title in 2017, with Bortolotti and Engelhart also securing the overall Blancpain GT Series championship.
It has now been confirmed that all three factory drivers have signed long-term contract extension with Lamborghini and will look to secure back-to-back successes this season.
This forms part of a major assault by Lamborghini and Grasser Racing, with the team set to field three full-time Pro cars in both the Endurance and Sprint Cups this season.
Bortolotti and Engelhart will remain together for the Sprint Cup, with Caldarelli once again joining them to defend their Endurance crown.
Caldarelli will also compete in all five Sprint Cup events, linking up with Ezequiel Perez Companc. A third Sprint Cup entry sees new signing Franck Perera paired with Dutch racer Loris Hezemans.
Perera will also compete in the Endurance Cup, sharing with Rolf Ineichen and a further Pro driver, who will be named after next month’s official test days at Paul Ricard (13-14 March).
The third Endurance entry sees Perez Companc paired with Lamborghini factory driver Raffaele Giammaria, with another Pro addition set be named after the test days.
Lamborghini’s head of motorsport Giorgio Sanna had significant praise for his factory drivers, calling them “the best that the international scene of GT competitions can offer.”
The Italian marque has also demonstrated its commitment to developing fresh talent, confirming that two of their young drivers will compete in the Blancpain GT Series Silver Cup in 2018. Fabrizio Crestani will drive for the Lazarus team, while Italian Super GT3 champion Alex Frassineti is set to compete for Ombra Racing.
