Reigning Blancpain GT Series Overall champion Dominik Baumann (#86 HTP Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3) is not the only member of his family competing at the Hungaroring this weekend.
Indeed, his father Oliver is taking part in the Blancpain GT Sports Club as well, competing at the wheel of the #68 DB-Motorsport Mercedes SLS AMG GT3. Actually, Dominik can often be seen taking a stroll down the paddock of SRO Motorsports Group’s Bronze-only drivers series.
“It was my father’s dream to race and he let me live it,” said the younger Baumann. “I try to give him some advice on testing and on racing but it’s not easy to translate words onto the track. He has been used to watching me race since I started competing at a young age. When my father is behind the wheel, it’s a special feeling to be honest. That said, I’m a bit nervous on race starts: I want to help him from afar. I like his calmness when he is in action. It’s always important to keep a cool head in motor racing.”
Known as ‘Daddy Baumann’ around the Blancpain GT Sports Club paddock, Oliver added: “It always feels pretty special to see Dominik on track. When it’s my turn to be in the car, I am just focused on learning as much as possible and making steady progress. I know my limits, obviously they are not as high as Dominik’s, and I am having a lot of fun out there.”
