Audi has extended its Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup practice dominance at the Hungaroring, after the #5 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT entry made it two from two around the Budapest venue with a 1:42.903 flyer.
Having already topped Friday morning’s session, Dries Vanthoor and Marcel Fässler once again led team-mates Christopher Mies and Enzo Ide (#1 Audi R8 LMS) with only 0.084s splitting the two cars in another 1-2 finish for WRT.
The second 80-minute practice saw 22 cars in the same second, while Pro-Am Sprint Cup points leader Alexander Mattschull and Daniel Keilwitz ruled their class with an impressive third position overall aboard the #333 Rinaldi Racing Ferrari 488 GT3.
Mirko Bortolotti and Christian Engelhart (#63 GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3) confirmed their strong pace around the 4.381km venue, adding fourth place to the third-fastest mark bagged in FP1.
Stuart Leonard and Robin Frijns ensured WRT placed three of their Audis in the top five, with the #17 entry heading Sprint Cup points leader Maxi Buhk and Franck Perera at the wheel of the fastest Mercedes-AMG GT3 (#84 Mercedes-AMG Team HTP Motorsport).
Christopher Zöchling and Max van Splunteren claimed the Silver Cup bragging rights for the #66 Attempto Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3. Last but not least, Kessel Racing’s David Perel and Stephen Earle continued to show promising speed aboard the #888 Am Cup-entered Ferrari 458 Italia GT3.
Saturday’s all-important Qualifying gets under way at 09:40 with the session split into three phases. At the end of Q2, only the top half of the field will advance to the final shoot-out in order to duke it out for pole position at the Hungaroring.
