Lamborghini led the opening day of running for the 2025 GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS campaign, with Grasser Racing and VSR topping the morning and afternoon sessions respectively at Circuit Paul Ricard.
The paddock has assembled at the French venue to undertake the traditional season Prologue, with two days of testing acting as the final prelude to the year ahead. A total of 53 cars from 10 manufacturers took part across two sessions, which ran from 09:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 17:00 CET.
Rain was a feature of the day, a highly unusual occurrence at Circuit Paul Ricard. The morning was wet, though dry periods allowed for some work to be completed on the slick Pirelli tyre, while the afternoon brought further showers and slower lap times.
The #63 Grasser Lamborghini led the way in the opening session, the retuning Mirko Bortolotti delivering a 1m55.186s. The #163 VSR entry was 0.419s adrift, followed by Mercedes-AMG Team GetSpeed in third. ROWE Racing and Walkenhorst Motorsport ensured that BMW and Aston Martin were also represented in the top five.
The VSR squad was quickest in the afternoon thanks to a 1m59.374s from Franck Perera. The French ace was followed by the #9 Boutsen VDS Mercedes-AMG, the #33 Verstappen.com Racing Aston Martin, the #12 Rinaldi Racing Ferrari and the #98 ROWE Racing BMW. Perera was the only man to break the two-minute barrier in the afternoon session.
Despite the rain, plenty of teams racked up serious mileage on Monday. The #80 Lionspeed Porsche recorded the greatest number of laps, completing 139 tours of Circuit Paul Ricard across the two sessions, while a total of 15 cars exceeded 100 laps. The field will be back on-track tomorrow at 09:00 CET for another seven hours of running.
