2025 ENTRY: Barwell joins Pro grid for Sprint Cup assault with Lamborghini

Barwell Motorsport has signalled its intent to compete for the overall Sprint Cup title this year by announcing a first-ever Pro entry in GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS.

A powerhouse in British GT and a regular class winner in Europe, the long-time Lamborghini squad will field Squadra Corsa factory driver Sandy Mitchell and newcomer Hugo Cook aboard the #78 machine. Both drivers are also part of the team's British GT plans, albeit in separate entries. This programme runs alongside an already-announced Silver Cup crew.

Mitchell is a Barwell veteran having raced extensively for the team at home and abroad. The Scottish ace earned the 2020 British GT title and a pair of CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa class victories in Barwell colours, helping to establish his reputation as one of the fastest Lamborghini drivers on the planet.

Cook, meanwhile, steps up to the Pro ranks after making his GT World Challenge Europe debut in 2024. The 20-year-old Englishman entered six rounds with three different teams, representing Audi squads Saintéloc Racing and CSA Racing as well as Lamborghini outfit Grasser Racing.

“Our move up to the Pro class of the GT World Challenge Europe has been a long time coming, and I’m really excited about it," said Barwell boss Mark Lemmer. "Without the backing of Dama Fortuna Premium Tequila this programme wouldn't be possible, so huge thanks to them for their amazing support.

"As a team we’ve proven time and again that we can succeed in the world’s toughest GT3 championship, and this year we’re aiming to make our mark in the top class. We have two very fast, very ambitious young drivers and I have every confidence that Sandy and Hugo will form a strong bond straight away."

Barwell joins an incresasingly strong Pro field for the 2025 Sprint Cup season, with AF Corse, Rutronik Racing and Boutsen VDS already confirmed and more big-name squads set to follow. The five-round, 10-race campaign gets underway at Brands Hatch on May 3/4.
