Toby Sowery put the #991 Century Motorsport BMW on top in this afternoon's Bronze Test at the Nürburgring, lapping the 5.1km circuit in 1m55.767s.
Though his car is entered in the Bronze Cup class, Sowery is a Silver-rated driver. But, as the Englishman had not previously competed at the track, he was given special dispensation to run in the 60-minute session. Sowery's crew-mate Darren Leung also took the wheel of the #991 BMW during the Bronze Test.
The Century Motorsport entry was followed by the #93 Sky Tempesta Racing Ferrari of Jonathan Hui, who posted a 1m56.445s during the closing minutes. This edged the Ferrari man ahead of last year's Bronze Cup winner, Ralf Bohn, who finished third in the #91 Herberth Motorsport Porsche. Louis Machiels was next aboard the #52 AF Corse Ferrari, followed by Miguel Ramos in the #188 Garage 59 McLaren.
The Bronze Test marked the first official session of the Nürburgring event and followed a pair of 90-minute tests earlier in the day. The first – which was staged on a wet circuit – was topped by Ayhancan Güven (#22 Schumacher CLRT Porsche), while the dry second session was led by Jules Gounon (#2 Mercedes-AMG Team GetSpeed). The latter was two tenths faster than Sowery managed in the Bronze Test.
The first full-field session will take place tomorrow morning, with Free Practice running at 08:30 CEST. This will be followed at 13:15 by Pre-Qualifying, while Qualifying and the three-hour Endurance Cup race are scheduled for Sunday at 08:45 and 15:00 respectively.
From tomorrow, all of the action can be enjoyed live in English, German, French and Italian on the GT World YouTube channel. Click here for more information.
