Dries Vanthoor topped the opening day of the 2024 CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa Prologue. The #32 Team WRT BMW set the pace in the morning session with the Belgian behind the wheel for a 2m18.091s lap.
Ricardo Feller, Christopher Haase and Alex Aka brought the #99 Tresor Attempto Racing Audi to within 0.114s of that benchmark time. The #159 Garage 59 McLaren of Benjamin Goethe, Tom Gamble and Dean Macdonald followed suit with a best effort of 2m18.297s, which also reflected the top three for the day.
Heavy rain during the lunch break resulted in slower lap times during the first part of the afternoon session. However by 15:30 slick tyres were being fitted. Further showers prevented anyone from beating Vanthoor, though Goethe came closest with a 2m18.821s.
The entry list for the centenary was revealed during a press conference held during the lunch break. A 67-car field will tackle the centenary race, which takes place between 25 and 30 June.
A further day of testing will follow tomorrow, after which the final countdown to the main event begins.
