During the hour of pre-qualifying the #99 ART Grand Prix McLaren proved to be the quickest car on track. Kevin Estre set his 2’20.944 lap in the early minutes of the session. The other car of the team, the #98 McLaren that crashed heavily during free practice, will be repaired for race day, team manager George Kaczka stated. Driver Alvaro Parente was bruised, but otherwise fine.
Behind the #99 ART Grand Prix McLaren several Mercedes and BMW fought for the other places in the top-5, with Stefano Colombo taking second in the #43 ROAL Motorsport BMW eventually. The Italian, quickest Pro-Am driver, was only 0.041 slower than Estre. Third went to the #86 HTP Motorsport Mercedes of sportscar rookie Jazeman Jaafar. The differences between the following cars were minimal, with the whole of the top-8 within two tenths of a second.
Quickest driver in the Gentlemen Trophy was Belgian Stéphane Lemeret, at the wheel of the #228 Delahaye Racing Porsche, setting the 24th time overall. No notable incidents during the pre-qualifying session. Qualifying for the 2014 Total 24 Hours of Spa will start at 20.45.
