Al Manar Racing by HRT ensured that Mercedes-AMG remained on top in pre-qualifying at Barcelona thanks to a 1m45.398s from Fabian Schiller.
This was enough for the Silver Cup crew to edge out the similar #88 Akkodis ASP car driven by Jules Gounon, who was 0.150s shy of the benchmark. The French squad will not be dissatisfied by this performance, a repeat of which in tomorrow's race would be more than enough to secure the Endurance Cup title.
Frederik Schandorff did a fine job to put the #7 Inception Racing McLaren third overall and on top of the Gold Cup class. The Danish driver posted a 1m45.566s, boosting confidence for the British team as it goes in pursuit of the class crown. The best of the Pro-Am runners was Dominik Baumann, who placed eighth overall in the #20 SPS Automotive Performance Mercedes-AMG.
Unlike this morning's free practice, pre-qualifying ran without stoppages and with no incidents of note. As such teams were able to carry out significant work ahead of tomorrow's season decider.
Qualifying is scheduled for 09:00 CEST on Sunday morning, while the main event gets underway at 15:00. All of the action will be streamed live in English, German, French and Italian on the GT World website.
