The #12 GPX Racing Porsche was on top after nightfall in today's opening Total 24 Hours of Spa test.
Last year's winning squad led the way with a 2m18.337s lap, the fastest seen on Tuesday at the Belgian circuit. The #30 Audi Sport Team WRT car was second, 0.991s shy of the benchmark. Earlier today, the Ingolstadt brand named its line-ups for next month's race.
The GPX machine beat the previous best, set by the #15 Tech1 Racing Lexus, by a little under a second. Earlier, the #66 Audi Sport Team Attempto crew topped the morning session, which ran in wet conditions. The rain had stopped by midday and was followed by clear skies and sunshine, which allowed for progressively faster times.
The night session was red-flagged at 20.15 after a car stopped at turn eight. It was recovered within 10 minutes, after which running continued without incident.
Wednesday's schedule runs from 10:00 until 12:00 and then from 13:00 through to the final chequered flag at 18:00, which will bring the curtain down on 18 hours of running at the Belgian track. The test acts as a prelude to next month's twice-around-the-clock classic, which will take place from 22-25 October.
