BMW leads with 90 minutes to go

With 90 minutes left in the 70th edition of the Total 24 Hours of Spa two BMW cars are leading the standings. The #34 Walkenhorst Motorsport car has a 15-second advantage over the #99 ROWE Racing M6, but there are four more cars on the lead lap.

The leading BMW’s received a slight boost in their conquest for a possible win at just under three hours from the end, when the Groupe National leading GDL Lamborghini crashed at the so-called Speakers’ Corner. The #4 Mercedes-AMG Team Black Falcon car immediately pitted, but because they completed their work before the following Full Course Yellow-period was called, time was lost.

The leading BMW cars could take theirs under the neutralisation of the race, as could the #25 Audi Sport Team Saintéloc R8 and the #29 Montaplast by Land-Motorsport car. The #4 Mercedes-AMG with striking livery dropped to fifth, but could make some of the lost time when the FCY-period was followed by a one-lap Safety Car intervention.

With 90 minutes to go, all cars on the leading lap had one pitstop left. The Walkenhorst car, with Philipp Eng at the wheel, still enjoyed a healthy lead over the Alexander Sims driver ROWE car. Fred Vervisch was a further five seconds down in the Saintéloc Audi, with Kelvin Van Der Linde in the Land Audi chasing him to conquer the final podium spot.

No changes in the Pro-Am, Silver and Am Cup standings, with the #333 Rinaldi Ferrari, the #12 Ombra Racing Lamborghini and #77 Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini as their respective leaders, while the retirement of the GDL Lamborghini gave the SpeedLover Porsche the opportunity to make up their 35 lap deficit. With 90 minutes to go they were still 14 laps behind.
